Gasoline components

Neste produces traffic fuel components for use in its own products and for sale to other oil companies. Clean gasoline components include ETBE, MTBE, alkylate and reformate.

MTBE (methyl tertiary butyl ether) and TAME (tertiary amyl methyl ether) are oxygenates that improve the combustion of fuel and reduce harmful emissions. MTBE has helped several countries and continents to improve air quality and refiners to produce clean burning gasoline. Neste provides MTBE to European and Asian market.

ETBE (ethyl tertiary butyl ether) is a high-quality, bioethanol-based gasoline component. Its benefits include low sulfur content, low aromatics content, low steam pressure and high octane number. ETBE is high performance biofuel made from renewable sources, and is sold to European market.

Alkylate is an excellent gasoline component used in automotive gasoline and small-engine gasoline.

Reforming is one of the most important gasoline production processes in a refinery. Reforming increases the octane number of low-octane gasoline.

All components are produced at Porvoo or at Naantali refinery in Finland.
