Neste Renewable Diesel to power City of Carlsbad's Fleet in California

Neste Renewable Diesel is now being used by the City of Carlsbad, California. In moving to Neste Renewable Diesel, the City of Carlsbad joins California's cleanest fleets including the City of San Francisco, City of Oakland, City of Walnut Creek, Google and UPS.

This switch from petroleum diesel to renewable diesel made from waste and residues will achieve up to 80 percent greenhouse gas emissions reduction to the city's diesel fleet. Additionally, the use of Neste Renewable Diesel is a solution to reduce tailpipe emissions and thus, improve the local air quality. Carlsbad will run Neste Renewable Diesel in a range of Fire Department and Public Works heavy-duty vehicles including fire trucks, dump trucks and vacuum trucks serving the community.

"Many cities and corporations worldwide are now looking ways to reduce emissions and carbon footprint. In the United States California is leading the way and Neste Renewable Diesel is a solution to reduce both greenhouse gas emissions and tailpipe emissions, which municipalities can greatly benefit from. Switching to it doesn't require any additional investments on infrastructure or engine modifications. Thus, fleets can switch to renewable diesel overnight", says Kaisa Hietala, Executive Vice President, Renewable Products, Neste Corporation.

"We feel privileged to help the City of Carlsbad become more sustainable. It is our vision to give public and private fleets, as well as consumers, options to make such responsible choices", continues Hietala.

Neste Renewable Diesel is supplied to the City of Carlsbad by Propel Fuels which is the largest retailer of low carbon fuels in California. Propel Fuels sells Neste Renewable Diesel under the brand name Diesel HPR.

"Diesel HPR cleans the air we breathe and reduces the emissions from our city vehicles", said Steve Hodges, Management Analyst for the City of Carlsbad Public Works and General Services. "Propel provides access to the top low-carbon fuel in the country, allowing us to share the health and emissions benefits with anyone living in or visiting Carlsbad."

"The City of Carlsbad has shown strong leadership in sustainability and climate action. Propel is excited to help extend their vision to their fueling program," said Rob Elam, CEO of Propel. "This is how smart fleets immediately reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality in the communities they serve", continues Elam.
