Neste demands that subcontractor corrects unclarities and violations

News

Neste takes very seriously the shortcomings concerning wages paid by its subcontractor IOI Group, which were reported by Finnwatch on April 9, 2015. According to Finnwatch, the RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) has confirmed in its additional investigations that employees have been paid wages that are too low at IOI Group's plantations.

"We expect all of our partners to comply with laws and contracts. We absolutely think that the unclarities and violations related to the payment of wages must be corrected. We discussed the shortcomings with IOI already last fall when Finnwatch published its report on shortcomings in labor rights in palm oil production. According to information we have received, IOI has taken action," says Simo Honkanen, Senior Vice President, Sustainability and Public Affairs at Neste.

“We took part in the preparation of Finnwatch’s report from the very beginning, and our cooperation with Finnwatch continues. We appreciate the work Finnwatch does," Honkanen says. Neste has also demanded that the RSPO take action to investigate the unclarities. The RSPO has established a Human Rights committee, in which Neste is also involved.
