Produced entirely from waste and residues, Neste MY Renewable Diesel will again reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of Weekend Festival, a festival dedicated to electronic music in Helsinki, Finland. Neste will be the music event's main partner and producer of low-carbon energy for the second consecutive year.

"We are extremely happy to be able to offer the audience a lower-emission event again as a partner of Weekend Festival. The energetic atmosphere at last year's festival was unique. Neste's renewable diesel was excellently suited for the festival and provided Weekend with reliable and cleaner energy," says Sirpa Tuomi, Marketing Director at Neste.

"We are really satisfied with the results of the cooperation last year. Weekend commissioned a visitor survey, asking which brands the young remember from Weekend Festival, and Neste was the third most commonly remembered one. Festival electricity produced with Neste's renewable diesel stuck in the minds of the audience and, to my mind, this is an indication of how young people are interested in environmental issues and sustainable products and services," Tuomi continues.

"Last year's sold-out Weekend Festival had the lowest emissions of all time. We were very satisfied with the emission reductions obtained with Neste's renewable diesel and we want to continue the same way also next summer. As a trailblazer among festivals, we set an example for tens of thousands of our visitors and the general public", says Jyri Heikkinen, in charge of marketing at Weekend Festival.

With Neste MY Renewable Diesel up to 90% lower greenhouse gas emissions can be achieved. By using renewable diesel in electricity production, event organizers can offer a more enjoyable event for their audiences because the odor and particulate emissions of renewable diesel are significantly lower than conventional fossil fuels.

"It is great that events are increasingly interested in sustainable alternatives. Neste is actively involved in various events helping to reduce their carbon footprint, and wants to offer more eco-friendly solutions to event organizers, also in the future. In addition to Weekend Festival, we were Super Bowl fan village's partner, for example, producing electricity for over a million visitors with renewable diesel. In summer 2017, Neste's renewable diesel will reduce the carbon footprint of The Tall Ship Races 2017, among others", says Kaisa Hietala, EVP, Renewable Products at Neste.

This year's Weekend Festival will take place on 4-5 August 2017 in Kyläsaari, Helsinki.
