The NEXBTL technology process consists of three basic steps, turning renewable raw materials like vegetable oils, wastes and residues into Neste MY Renewable Diesel. What many see as waste, we see as valuable raw materials
Neste uses approximately 10 different globally-sourced raw materials each year to produce its renewable products. The majority of these are wastes and residues, such as waste animal fat and used cooking oil, in addition to various vegetable oils.
We purify the raw materials
The waste and residue materials are pre-treated to remove impurities. This creates a clean, pure material that can be turned into renewable products.
Refining is the last step
Using our NEXBTL technology, we replace the waste and residue material's oxygen molecules with hydrogen molecules. Other impurities, like sulphur, are also removed. Next, the hydrocarbons are isomerized to fine-tune the properties of the end products into diesel, gasoline or jet fuel. In the process, the hydrocarbon structure is branched to create the desired properties.
And the result is Neste MY Renewable Diesel
The end result is Neste MY Renewable Diesel — a pure hydrocarbon that can reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% compared to fossil diesel.
