Neste Oil again voted one of the world's 'hottest' bioenergy companies
Biofuels Digest, one of the leading online news media in the bioenergy field, has again listed the world's 'hottest' companies in the industry, this time for 2012-2013, and ranked Neste Oil 21st as of the end of October this year. This was a further step up for Neste Oil, as the company had previously been ranked 25th.
Innovations and achievements in bioenergy development were described by Biofuel Digest in its press release as being the most important criteria for how companies are ranked. Votes cast by an international panel accounted for 45% of the evaluation, those cast by the subscribers of Biofuels Digest and Biobased Digest for 45%, while Twitter votes accounted for the remaining 10%. A total of more than 300,000 votes were cast this year. 37 of the 50 companies included in the list are from the US and 13 from elsewhere.
Being ranked among the world's leading companies in the bioenergy field highlights the recognition that Neste Oil has received for the major investments that it has made in the area in recent years and its long-term R&D into the technology needed for producing premium-quality renewable diesel.
"Increasing the amount of waste and residues used in producing NExBTL renewable diesel is one of Neste Oil's most important goals at the moment," says Osmo Kammonen, Neste Oil's Senior Vice President, Communications, Marketing and Public Affairs. "A recent example of this is the EUR 8 million investment in a pilot plant for producing microbial oil from industrial and agricultural residues for use as a feedstock for producing NExBTL renewable diesel. The first phase of the plant was completed this August. Our R&D goal is to develop this technology to enable us to scale up microbial oil production to industrial volumes."

NExBTL renewable diesel in brief
Neste Oil's NExBTL renewable diesel is compatible with all diesel engines, either at 100% content or blended with fossil diesel. It has a similar composition to fossil diesel and offers equally good or even better quality. NExBTL diesel has been tested extensively and successfully around the world in trucks, buses, and cars. Using NExBTL diesel reduces greenhouse gas emissions by at least 40% compared to fossil diesel, and reduces tailpipe emissions significantly as well. NExBTL technology is capable of processing virtually any vegetable oil or waste fat into premium-quality renewable fuel.
