Neste Oil demands high sustainability standards from the whole supply chain 25.03.2010

Neste Oil always takes seriously claims against its own operations or those in its supply chain. These claims lead to further investigations without any exceptions.

The recent report by Miliendefensie and the Friends of the Earth Europe reort concentrates on our palm oil supplier’s, the IOI Group’s and its subsidiary company’s operations in Indonesia. Therefore we have asked IOI to give a review on the claims and expect to receive it in the next few days.

Neste Oil does not accept any illegal actions or practices that are in contradiction with the rules of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). Neste Oil controls its supply chain through its own audits together with audits commissioned from third-parties. These procedures are our standard practice and they are included in all of Neste Oil's supplier contracts.

Whenever any non-compliance to agreed procedures is found, Neste Oil requests a plan for corrective actions. Neste Oil’s sustainability principles and practices are included in our supplier contracts and they are also available on the company’s website. We believe that all business practices can be best improved through cooperation between partners. An extreme option available to us is to cancel the contract if corrective actions and plans for improvements do not materialize.

Neste Oil’s sustainability practices and governance are internationally recognized. Neste Oil is included in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and has been awarded 'Best in Class' recognition for its social accountability by Storebrand. The company is also featured in the Ethibel Pioneer Investment Register and included in Innovest's Global 100 list of the world's most sustainable corporations. Forest Footprint Disclosure (FFD) has ranked Neste Oil as the best performer in the oil & gas sector.
