Neste Oil to launch bio heating oil in January 2009

Starting from the beginning of next year, Neste Oil will offer you even better heating oil. Neste heating oil bio includes a two per cent biological component, consisting of NExBTL fuel manufactured from renewable raw materials and based on technology developed by Neste Oil.

Neste heating oil bio is directly suitable for current oil heating systems. No equipment adjustments are needed. There will be no increase in oil consumption or heating system maintenance costs. Neste Oil offers a smooth and trouble-free transfer to the biological era of oil heating.

All summer-quality heating oil sold by Neste Oil will include the two per cent biological component. The product will be available everywhere in Finland. In spite of higher raw material costs, the price per litre will only increase a couple of cents.

Suitability proved in field tests

The suitability of NExBTL fuel has been tested in several field tests. Tests have been carried out, for example, in a house built for the 2007 Housing Fair and in a detached house in Espoo, where tests were performed in winter 2008. Both test houses were heated using a mixture of NExBTL and traditional heating oil. Heating oil containing NExBTL has also worked flawlessly in other targets. Its energy efficiency has proven to be excellent, which means even lower emissions.  

In tests carried out by Neste Oil, heating oil containing NExBTL has been shown to have excellent technical qualities for bio heating oil.

The heating oil cut of 10,000 detached houses

Adding biological content to heating oil is one way of responding to the climate challenge. In Finland's heating oil consumption, a two per cent biological component will mean a cut comparable to the fossil heating oil of 10,000 detached houses. The biological content of heating oil will be gradually increased to ten per cent by 2016.

It is also important to cut the energy consumption at the individual level, seeing to the proper insulation of the house and the condition of heating equipment. Oil heating can be combined, for example, with solar heating, also making it a viable option in the future.

NExBTL
Developed by Neste Oil, NExBTL is the most advanced diesel fuel on the market manufactured from renewable raw materials. NExBTL can be flexibly manufactured from plant oil or animal fat not suited to the needs of the food industry. It can also be used as a component of traditional heating oil or diesel fuel mixture.
