Neste Oil officially receives Public Eye Award 13.04.2011

Neste Oil’s Senior Vice President, Sustainability and HSSE, Simo Honkanen, received the 2011 Public Eye Award today in Switzerland on behalf of the company from the Award’s organizers, who handed it over at Neste Oil’s office in Geneva.

“We have been aware of the result for some time. It comes as a disappointment to us, given the amount of work that Neste Oil has done to promote sustainability and the fact that we are certainly one of the world’s most responsible palm oil buyers,” says Honkanen.

“We share the concerns of many non-governmental organizations and are committed to have a dialogue and work with a wide range of people and other stakeholders. We oppose the destruction of rainforest and do not condone it under any circumstances. Neste Oil sees the promotion of sustainable palm oil production as very important, which is why we are actively involved in this work.”

Public Eye is an annual event organized by Berne Declaration and Greenpeace that holds an online vote to select the “most evil” corporation of the year from a list of nominees drawn up by the organizers. Neste Oil previously commented on the Public Eye Award vote at the end of January.
