Neste Oil ranked the world's 19th most sustainable company in the Global 100 list

For the sixth consecutive year, Neste Oil has been selected for inclusion in the Global 100 list of the world's most sustainable companies. This year the company reached the 19th place on the list improving its ranking by one step from last year. Out of the Finnish companies, Neste Oil's ranking was the highest. Kesko, with the second highest ranking by a Finnish company, reached the 43rd place on the list.

The Global 100 list is based on an expert analysis of 3,500 listed companies from different sectors around the world. Of these 3,500, the 400 most sustainable are selected on the basis of their performance against 11 indicators. Companies are compared in terms of things such as their energy and water consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, the amount of waste they generate in proportion to the financial wellbeing they provide, safety performance, remuneration, personnel turnover, and the extent to which their management structure reflects the diversity of the societies and markets in which they operate. Companies selected for inclusion in the list are considered the best in their fields in respect of their performance against these social and corporate sustainability indicators.

"Being ranked so high among the world's most sustainable companies is a very welcome recognition of the long-term and extensive work that we have done to promote sustainability," says Simo Honkanen, Neste Oil's Senior Vice President, Sustainability and HSSE. "Last year we succeeded in halving the number of our work-related accidents when compared to the previous year, for example. Our most important achievement in terms of sustainability, however, was linked to the NExBTL renewable diesel we produced in 2011. NExBTL enabled us to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions generated by traffic and transport by an amount equivalent to eliminating more than 310,000 diesel cars from the roads."

Neste Oil has been a pioneering producer of cleaner traffic fuels for decades and has led the way in introducing sulfur-free, unleaded, and renewable fuels and been at the forefront of developments in the quality and environmental areas in the oil industry.
