Neste Oil taking part in renewable diesel trials in Germany - to reduce tailpipe emissions

Neste Oil is taking part in a test program on diesel fuel produced from 100% renewable raw materials in Coburg, Germany. A total of 15 different vehicles are involved in the field trials, all powered by a new blend of renewable diesel. Known as Diesel Regenerativ, this contains either 93% or 98% of Neste Oil's NExBTL renewable diesel and 7% or 2% of conventional FAME-type biodiesel. Both fuels are produced from German rapeseed oil.

The year-long project will test the performance of the new fuel and the contribution it can make to lower emissions. The trials will focus on the negative impact traffic has on busy city centers and the benefits that renewable fuel can bring to the urban environment. The tests will also enable the performance of renewable diesel produced using two different technologies to be compared under field conditions.

In addition to Neste Oil, the project involves a number of German official agencies, universities, research institutions, and automotive manufacturers:

"Previous field trials have shown that NExBTL renewable diesel performs excellently when used in a variety of fuel blends and under a very wide range of conditions," says Osmo Kammonen, Neste Oil's Senior Vice President, Communications, Marketing and Public Affairs. "The Coburg trials will now give us the opportunity to assess its performance and emissions reduction potential when blended with conventional biodiesel."
