Neste Oil´s Porvoo refinery back on stream following maintenance turnaround

Press Release
3 October 2005 at 12:30 pm EET

Neste Oil's Porvoo refinery is now back on stream as normal after scheduled five-week maintenance turnaround. The actual maintenance work was completed on 21 September, and the turnaround and start-up proceeded smoothly and to plan.

In addition to normal maintenance work, the turnaround also included a number of investments designed to enhance the refinery’s productivity, such as expanding lubricant component production capacity. The turnaround also saw modifications made to sulfur recovery, cooling water, electricity supply, and flaring systems as part of the refinery’s Diesel Project, as well as hundreds of tie-ins installed between the new diesel and biodiesel lines under construction and existing units to enable the new units to be started up without shutting down other operations.

Despite the large amount of work involved in the turnaround program, which made it a very demanding project, the refinery was out of production for two weeks less than during the previous major maintenance turnaround in 2001. Safety performance was also very satisfactory; the frequency of on-site accidents was less than 10% of the average at Finnish construction sites.

The next major maintenance turnaround at the Porvoo refinery is scheduled for 2010.
