A Greek tanker grounded at the Gulf of Finland

M/T Propontis, owned by Greek shipowner Tsakos, was grounded early in the morning at the Gulf of Finland. The ship was bound from Primorsk, Russia to Western Europe. M/T Propontis is carrying 110,000 tons of crude oil. There are some ruptures in the ship's ballast tanks but the cargo space is intact. No oil spills have been observed.
 
M/T Propontis is a modern double-hull tanker built in 2006. Following the incident the ship discontinued its journey and the crew is inspecting damages at sea. Authorities and the shipowner decide on further actions.
 
M/T Propontis is time-chartered by Neste Shipping. Its crude oil cargo onboard is owned by a third party.
