Neste Oil congratulates the winners of this year’s Millennium Technology Grand Prize: Linus Torvalds and Shinya Yamanaka
Neste Oil would like to add its congratulations to the joint winners of the 2012 Millennium Technology Grand Prize announced on 13 June: Linus Torvalds and Shinya Yamanaka. Linus Torvalds, the Finnish-American creator of an open-source computer operating system, and Shinya Yamanaka, the Japanese stem cell research pioneer, both received EUR 600,000 in recognition of their achievements. Neste Oil has been one of the main partners of the Millennium Technology Prize since 2006.
“We would like to congratulate Linus Torvalds and Shinya Yamanaka for their exemplary work in highlighting how technology and innovation make an invaluable contribution to solving global challenges and helping improving people’s quality of life,” says Lars Peter Lindfors, Neste Oil’s Senior Vice President, Technology and Strategy. “They are an example for both young researchers just beginning their careers and companies developing their own innovations. Neste Oil, for example, is committed to innovations that help people stay on the move and reduce their impact on the environment, both today and into the future.”
The international Millennium Technology Prize is awarded by Technology Academy Finland, an independent foundation established by Finnish industry and the Finnish state in 2002. The Board of Technology Academy Finland selects the winners of the Prize based on recommendations made by an International Selection Committee every second year.
