Neste Oil to challenge other companies to support the World Bank’s Putting a Price on Carbon initiative
News
The Climate Change Leadership Council – an alliance founded by Sitra, the Finnish Innovation Fund, Neste Oil, and five other leading Finnish companies – has decided to challenge companies across the Nordic region to take a greater part in combating climate change and add their support to the World Bank’s Putting a Price on Carbon initiative before the Climate Summit in New York on 23 September. The Climate Leadership Council is supporting the initiative in collaboration with Global Utmaning (Global Challenge), a Nordic think tank, and its Nordic Action Group.
“We definitely want to be part of projects in which we can use our cleantech know-how to show what can be achieved in areas such as resource efficiency and be part of efforts to combat climate change and promote greater resource awareness globally,” says Neste Oil’s President & CEO, Matti Lievonen. “Using our NEXBTL renewable diesel, for example, can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90% compared to fossil fuel, and over 60% of the inputs we use to produce it currently consist of waste and residues.”
Statesmen from around the world are due to attend the Climate Summit in New York convened by the UN’s Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon, which will be the first high-level meeting to address climate issues since the UN Climate Change Conference held in Copenhagen in 2009.
