Neste's NEXBTL renewable diesel to reduce Flow Festival's carbon footprint again

Neste has once again been chosen as the environmental partner of the Flow Festival arranged on 14-16 August. Neste will deliver the 100% NEXBTL renewable diesel for the electricity production at the event. With the help of the NEXBTL renewable diesel made of waste and residue, Flow Festival's carbon footprint will decrease significantly compared to using fossil fuel.

"With the NEXBTL renewable diesel, it is possible to reach as much as 90 per cent lower greenhouse gas emissions during the lifecycle than with fossil diesel. We are extremely pleased that the top-quality and cleanly burning renewable NEXBTL has found its way also to the sustainable and environmentally less burdening electricity production at events. It is also a more pleasant alternative to the people attending the event since using NEXBTL does not cause a bitter smell as ordinary diesel does," says Kaisa Hietala, Executive Vice President, Renewable Products at Neste.

NEXBTL shuttle bus to transport the festival audience to Suvilahti with lower emissions

Neste also offers the festival crowd the opportunity to arrive in Suvilahti on a bus that uses the low-emission NEXBTL renewable diesel that is made of 100% renewable feedstock. The shuttle bus operates between the Central Railway Station and Suvilahti during the Flow Festival.

"Our NEXBTL renewable diesel is mainly used as traffic fuel in order to reduce traffic emissions. Thus, we want to offer the Flow Festival audience the opportunity to arrive on a bus that runs on 100% renewable diesel, which at the same time reminds us of the means of reducing traffic emissions. One of the most efficient and already available means is sustainably produced renewable fuel," Hietala continues.

"We are extremely pleased that the electricity needed for the Flow Festival can be generated with renewable energy sources. Instead of fossil fuels, we use 100% NEXBTL renewable diesel for our generators. Lowering the emissions is one of the goals of Flow Festival's environmental program this year," says Flow Festival's Production Manager Emilia Mikkola who is also responsible for the environmental matters of the event.

Based on Neste Oil's own technology, NEXBTL diesel can be produced from almost any type of vegetable oil or waste fat, for example, of the inedible waste fat of the food industry. Utilizing inedible waste and residue feedstock for the production of bio fuels is clever use of the resources, and does not compete with food production.

At present, more than 60 per cent of the renewable feedstock Neste uses consists of waste and residue. Our target is to reach the ability to use exclusively waste and residue in production of renewable diesel by 2017.
