Sustainability in action: Neste Oil empolyees doing a good work in Netherlands
Care home residents at Idahoeve at Tiengementen in the Netherlands get a new workshop, thanks to local Neste Oil personnel
Neste Oil employees in the Netherlands spent a total of 860 hours of time in November revamping facilities at Idahoeve at Tiengemeten, a local care home for people with mental health problems. Idahoeve at Tiengemeten is located on an island off the coast of Port of Rotterdam. Around 150 people from Neste Oil Netherlands spent four days revamping the home’s workshop, which is used by residents for a variety of leisure-time activities. The refurbished workshop was officially opened in Friday, 30 November
The project is part of Neste Oil’s annual safety training program aimed at maintaining and improving safety culture across the company.
“The idea to combine Neste Oil’s Safety vulture with this project came from our own personnel, who wanted to do something for the local community,” says Bart Leenders, Managing Director of Neste Oil Netherlands. “Idahoeve at Tiengemeten was chosen because of the important work that it does to help people suffering from mental problems. I am proud that, by revamping the workshop and applying our safety standards, we have been able not only to help the home, but have also had the opportunity to offer all our employees an unforgettable experience and one that will certainly strengthen our common values.”
“It is amazing that so many employees of Neste Oil have been active on the Idahoeve. Together they have worked hard with a fantastic result: an old messy work barn is now a beautiful studio," says Marianne van Duijn, Director of Bavo Europoort, the owner of Idahoeve.
“It was heartening to see the enthusiasm and open-mindedness of Neste Oil’s staff when they worked with people with mental health problems. We hope that they will share their positive experience with other people and organizations and thus, spread the message”, continues Marianne.
Neste Oil Netherlands operates one of the world’s two largest renewable diesel refineries at Maasvlakte at the Port of Rotterdam. Commissioned in 2011, the refinery employs around 150 people, the majority of which are Dutch.
