Neste will be starting production of renewable propane at a new unit being built at the Rotterdam refinery. Production is expected to start by the end of 2016, with an agreement to supply 160,000 tonnes to SHV Energy over a four-year period.
Renewable propane is produced from renewable feedstocks such as waste and residues
This makes it an even cleaner alternative to LPG (Liquefied petroleum gas), which already is one of the cleanest types of fossil fuels available.
The new unit will purify and separate renewable propane from the sidestream gases produced by the refinery. In use, renewable propane is identical to conventional propane and therefore has the benefit of being able to be blended and used by all existing appliances suitable for use with propane.
