Exploring the frontlines of climate change

The Tara Ocean Foundation is embarking on the Tara Polaris 1 scientific expedition to continue its vital work monitoring climate change. During 2026–2027, the Tara Polar Station—a cutting-edge drifting laboratory—will spend 18 months locked in sea ice. Working alongside 30 renowned research institutes, this expedition will document changes in the Arctic Ocean's unique biodiversity and assess its role as a planetary cooling system.

A mission-critical fuel

Locked in sea ice 90% of the time with no possibility to refuel, the Tara Polar Station requires absolute reliability. Neste is supporting this important work by supplying nearly 90,000 liters of Neste MY Renewable Diesel™. Operating flawlessly in extreme temperatures down to -32°C, our fuel will power the station's generators, heating, and propulsion—working alongside wind and solar energy to significantly reduce the expedition's climate impact*.

“We have designed the vessel energy systems to operate on renewable diesel since the very beginning for both its efficient combustion and its low carbon footprint. Neste is one of the leading producers of renewable diesel and I am very glad that they decided to become a partner of this fantastic and important scientific endeavor to the Arctic Ocean.”

Romain Troublé, Managing Director, Tara Ocean Foundation

"We are proud to collaborate with the Tara Ocean Foundation and to support its important scientific work by supplying our renewable diesel that delivers reliable performance even in the harshest conditions in the Arctic."

Carl Nyberg, Senior Vice President Commercial, Renewable Products, Neste
