Sustainable Development Goals
The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collection of 17 interconnected global goals to promote peace and prosperity while protecting people and the planet. They represent an action plan for the planet and society to thrive by 2030, and explicitly call on businesses to help lead this transformation.
We recognize the strategic importance of the SDGs to our business and the world and are committed to helping achieve them. We have identified nine priority SDGs as the goals to which we most significantly contribute and have used the SDG Compass to determine them. To understand and prioritize the most relevant SDGs for Neste, we have assessed both the positive and negative impacts our business has on the SDGs throughout our value chains. Our prioritization process is based on our sustainability materiality assessment, impact evaluation study, an external review and an internal expert analysis. By identifying material sustainability topics and the relevant SDGs, we position Neste as part of society as well as part of the global sustainability framework. We monitor, measure and follow up our actions’ effect on the broader context.

Industry, innovation and infrastructure
Innovation, technology and R&D are essential across our operations, supporting raw material, product and technology development, as well as quality assurance and performance for all our solutions.

Sustainable cities and communities
Neste helps its customers to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by offering renewable fuels for aviation and road transportation.
Neste helps cities in mitigating climate change by reducing GHG emissions with renewable fuels.
Neste MY Renewable Diesel is available for customers at fuel stations in for example, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Sweden and in the US.
Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™ is available at several airports and airlines.
Neste offers electric vehicle charging services at its service stations in Finland and in the Baltics.

Responsible consumption and production
We refine waste, residues and innovative raw materials into renewable fuels and produce feedstock solutions using renewable and recycled raw materials.
Climate, biodiversity, human rights and supply chain sustainability aspects are integrated in our investment process and criteria.
We have completed Sedex self-assessment questionnaires for our refineries in Porvoo, Rotterdam and Singapore, allowing us to thoroughly assess gaps in our management systems and human rights due diligence.

Climate action
Neste contributes to climate change mitigation efforts by producing increasing volumes of renewable and circular products while also aiming to reduce its own carbon footprint. Our climate work is focused on three priority areas: carbon handprint, GHG emissions in our own operations, and use-phase emission intensity.
Through our renewable and circular solutions, we aim to help our customers reduce their GHG emissions by at least 20 million tons annually by 2030.
Neste’s climate commitments are connected with the remuneration of Neste’s key personnel.
To align our investment decisions to support our climate commitments, we apply an internal carbon price for our scope 1 & 2 GHG emissions in investment calculations, business case evaluations and strategic planning.

Life on land
Neste is committed to protecting biodiversity with a vision to drive a positive impact on biodiversity and achieve a nature positive value chain 1) by 2040. We aim to generate a net positive impact on biodiversity for all new direct operations from 2025 onwards, and target no net loss (NNL) of biodiversity from our existing operations by 2035.
Neste aims to prevent deforestation and requires the same from its suppliers.
1) A nature positive value chain means that throughout our value chain, we are creating more positive impacts on nature than causing adverse ones

Partnerships for the goals
Partnerships are at the core of the SDGs and we see them as the key to advancing sustainable development in business.
