Neste has a refinery in Porvoo, Finland, comprising of four production lines. In Finland, our crude oil refining capacity is approximately 14 million ton/a. At our Porvoo refinery, we manufacture both fossil and renewable products. At the Naantali site, we concentrate on harbour and terminal operations.
The Porvoo operations are located in the Kilpilahti industrial area, which is the biggest chemical industry consortium in the Nordics. In the Neste’s refinery in Porvoo, we employ some 1,150 persons.
In Porvoo, we have four production lines and more than 40 production units, including two NEXBTL units producing Neste MY renewable diesel. Production is highly automated and modern – in fact, the refinery is among the most efficient and versatile refineries in Europe.
The refining capacity of crude oil is approximately 10.5 million ton/a, or 206,000 barrels per day. In addition to crude oil, also other feedstocks are transported to Porvoo, resulting in a total production capacity of approximately 13.5 million ton/a. The most important products of the Porvoo refinery are traffic fuels (diesel, gasoline), marine fuels and base oil.
Almost 8 million cubic meters of storage capacity and active harbour
The overground and underground tanks in Porvoo refinery contain almost 8 million cubic meters of storage capacity for feedstocks and products. In addition, Neste has a harbour and distribution terminal in Porvoo. Neste’s Porvoo harbour is the biggest in Finland when measured in tons, with about 1,100–1,400 ship calls every year.
Neste’s refining operations in Naantali were ended at the end of March 2021. Neste will continue harbour and distribution terminal operations in Naantali. Neste’s Naantali terminal distributes transportation fuels in Southwest Finland. Naantali terminal operations consist of the harbour, the distribution terminal in charge of tanker truck distribution, the large tank area, and various support functions such as the wastewater treatment plant. The Naantali harbour is the fifth-largest harbour in Finland in terms of traffic volume.
