Liquefied waste plastic

Neste is advancing chemical recycling of plastic waste. Chemical recycling complements mechanical recycling as it originates from low-quality waste streams not suitable for mechanical recycling and destined for incineration or landfills.

From liquefied waste plastic Neste produces high-quality feedstock for the plastics and chemicals industry. We are sourcing liquefied waste plastic from various suppliers, mainly in Europe.

Turning liquefied plastic waste into raw materials for new plastics

Although liquefied waste plastic resembles crude oil, it contains impurities and chemical compositions that limit its use, as they lead to risks of corrosion, process inefficiency and poor end-product quality. Neste’s upgrading facility is specifically designed to process oils derived from challenging waste plastic streams – such as multi-layer packaging, mixed plastic waste, and contaminated plastics.

Chemical recycling through upgrading breaks up the physical and chemical structure converting it to raw materials (hydrocarbons) that meet strict technical, safety and hygiene standards. Through upgrading hard-to-recycle plastic waste can be refinered to meet the feedstock quality requirements of companies manufacturing high-quality plastics.
